Online Jobs

College students live online. Some of them use the web purely for research. If you’re a college student in need of some extra cash, you may be surprised by the amount of job opportunities available to you online. How perfect is that? Here is a list of the top ten jobs for students online.
10 – Data Entry
Data entry work is very simple to do, and you can find tons of data entry jobs online. These jobs will involve basic tasks on the computer, like putting information into spreadsheets or organizing documents into folders. oDesk.com is a great website to go to for data entry jobs, but I will forewarn you that they work on an international level. Thus a lot of these jobs only pay $2-$3 an hour. You may have to scour for some well-paying, easy jobs like this.
9 – Surveys
Believe it or not, you can take surveys online and make money from it. I’ve never actually worked through a site that does this, but I do know that they’re out there. I’ve heard of SurveyClub before, but there are other sites out there. Feel free to explore.
8 – Amazon Mechanical Turk
Amazon Mechanical Turk is a “marketplace for work” (Yes, I stole that phrase from the website). It’s basically a site where businesses and web developers can post odd end jobs to have random people do. You can pick up a job for a $1, $5, $10 – it just depends on what the job entails. This site may not pay the bills, but it might pay the beer tab for a night. The jobs are really easy to do there, so just create an account and check it out.
7 – Translating
If you speak a foreign language fluently, you may make some money doing translation work. oDesk has a lot of translation jobs available for decent pay, and you can sometimes find positions in the jobs section of Craigslist. This isn’t a job for every college student, but it can provide a decent part time living for those who qualify.

6 – Secretarial Work
Most people assume that secretaries have to work in an office, but that isn’t always the case. You can be a virtual assistant for a company and work right from your computer. Many of these positions require full time commitment, but there are part time positions as well. You just have to show the company that you are knowledgeable and trustworthy.
5 – Sales
If you don’t mind working on commission, you can always make money in sales. I see sales positions on Craigslist all the time, and they usually offer decent commission pay for good salespeople. You could sell makeup, Tupperware, cleaning supplies, insurance, or anything else. It’s just a matter of finding the job.
4 – Blogging
I’m obviously a fan of blogging since, well, I’m doing it right now. I don’t use blogs to make money per se, but it is possible for you to do that. You can buy a domain name and hosting service from GoDaddy, and then all you have to do is upload WordPress for your content. Pick a general theme for your posts, and then get some of them on the web. If you start getting views for the blog, you can put ads on it that earn you money. This may not be a guaranteed way to make money, but it’s easy, fun, and potentially profitable.

3 – Vlogging
Vlogging is just video blogging. This is a great options for college students because video viewers like seeing young, attractive people talking to a camera. You can make videos about whatever you want, and then you can upload them to YouTube for free. If they start getting a lot of views, YouTube will ask if you want to put ads on your videos. Those ads can earn you some serious cash. All you need is a webcam and the internet to get started.
2 – Writing
There are literally thousands of writing jobs online that you can use to make money from. If you’re a decent writer, you should be able to make minimum wage or better just by writing articles on your computer. I write full time and make more than many college graduates do, and this is something I actually enjoy doing. Check out my article on How to Make Money as a Freelance Writer for more information about how you can make this system work for you.
1 – Tutoring
Tutoring can be a killer job if you know what you’re talking about. You can tutor fellow college students, high school students, elementary school students and more. It just depends on your expertise. I have a friend that runs tutoring sessions for a local community college, and he gets paid $10 a person to have large tutoring sessions right before tests. He usually has 10-20 people show up, and they only stay with him for about an hour. $200 isn’t bad pay for 60 minutes of time if you ask me. You might be able to setup a similar program yourself. You can tutor online just as easily as you can tutor in person. You just have to find the job to let you do that.
